What’s happening in the Costa Rica real estate market? Here’s a quick overview of the conditions as of January 20, 2021.
To be clear, my comments are based on what’s happening right now *specifically in the Guanacaste, Costa Rica real estate market.*
In tourism hubs like Playa Flamingo, Playa Potrero or Playa Tamarindo, real estate selling faster than it has in years, largely due to the fact that for 7 months in 2020, no international visitors (who weren’t residents) were allowed to enter. During that time – what I refer to herein as “the great pause,” we saw an enormous decline in the number of real estate transactions across the board.
As of November 1, 2020, visitors from all over the world were allowed to enter Costa Rica. At that moment the “backlog” of visitors – those who had wanted to visit previously in 2020 – began to trickle down.
Because of the risks associated with traveling right now, and because it was initially more difficult to get in to Costa Rica, my instinct says that a much higher percentage of visitors were coming to either stay or find a property with casual or short-term vacationers a smaller number than usual.
