The Absence of Mothers | Lexi DeMarinins | TEDxCardinalNewmanHS

This speaker addresses the urgent need for improved health care in rural regions of countries suffering from poverty. The talk focuses particularly on the health needs of mothers. Lexi DeMarinis is a senior at Cardinal Newman High School. She has played volleyball for the past eight years, but also enjoys being outdoors, exploring new areas, cooking, baking, and hanging out with her friends. Over the course of the past year, Lexi has collected unused and surplus medical supplies from Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and shipped them to remote village hospitals in Zimbabwe, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Uganda. She will attend University of Richmond in the fall where she hopes to continue her service work. She will miss beautiful California but is excited for a new adventure on a different coast! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
